Personal Injury Claims

At Dillon Solicitors we have a great deal of experience in acting for clients in personal injuries claims.

Before commencing Court proceedings in Ireland, all personal injury claims (with the exception of a personal injury arising out of medical negligence) must be submitted first to the Injuries Board (formerly known as PIAB). The Injuries Board is an independent government body which assesses the amount of compensation due to a person who has suffered a personal injury. The Injuries Board can deal with matters where there is no dispute of liability, as they do not hear cases.

In the event that the defendants agree, an assessment of damages can be carried out by the Injuries Board without proceeding to Court.

We can submit your claim and deal with your claim to the Injuries Board. We will advise you on the process and discuss any settlement discussions that might take place during the process. If a defendant refuses to have the claim dealt with by the Injuries Board or if an award is deemed to be unsatisfactory by either party, then the compensation claim can proceed to Court and legal proceedings are started. At this point, what is known as an 'authorisation' is issued by the board. On receiving the authorisation from the Injuries Board legal proceedings can then be issued.

In the case where proceedings issue we offer clear advice on the necessary steps to be followed. We will advise you on the following:

We use sophisticated case step procedures to ensure that all matters are dealt with in as timely and as orderly a manner as possible.
